Training Courses:

Cube For Beginners

New Course! This one-day course is designed for first-time users of Cube. Starting from basic concepts in travel demand forecasting and traffic modeling, the class will explain how to use Cube Base features to harness the power of Cube Voyager and answer common questions in transportation planning and engineering. The purpose of the course is to use Cube to “open up the black box” and de-mystify the art of travel demand forecasting for non-experts.

Topics will include:

  • Major types of Cube models
  • Cube Base user interface components
  • Cube Voyager programs and data types
  • Running scenarios using pre-defined data
  • Extracting information from model outputs

Date: October 30 (1 day)

Cost: Bargain! $500 $250 per student

INTEGRATING ARCGIS® WITH CUBE AND SUGAR NETWORK EDITOR

Updated and expanded for 2011! A two-day course that provides a comprehensive, overview of the tools and features in Cube 6 that allow you to integrate transportation modeling and geographic information systems. This course is designed for Cube users who are interested in storing their model data in ESRI geodatabases and using ArcGIS-based techniques to edit data and create maps. Special attention will be given to new features in ArcGIS 10 that may be of special interest to travel demand modelers.

Attendees will learn:

  • How to conflate networks to roadway centerline files using True Shape
  • How to use different types of ESRI geodatabases with Cube models
  • How to develop and maintain data using the Cube 6 GIS window or Sugar Network Editor
  • How to develop and maintain data using the Cube 6 GIS window or Sugar Network Editor

Date: October 29-30 (2 days)

Cost: $900 per student

ADVANCED SCRIPTING TECHNIQUES WITH CUBE VOYAGER

A two-day course that provides a comprehensive, in-depth overview of the Cube Voyager scripting language. This course presents techniques analysts can use to construct any imaginable type of transportation model, including activity-based models. It is also designed for those already familiar with Cube Voyager who are interested in tips and tricks that will improve their efficiency and expand their capabilities.

Attendees will learn:

  • Scripting tips, tricks, and techniques to efficiently automate tasks
  • Record processing and relational database programming techniques
  • Advanced highway network traffic assignment methods
  • Multi-path and capacity-constrained public transit assignment

Date: November 3-4 (2 day)

Cost: $900 per student

INTRODUCTION TO CUBE CLOUD SERVICES

New! Cube version 6 makes it possible to upload your model and data to a hosted, scalable cloud computing environment. This places the model in an arena of essentially unlimited hardware, allowing you to run quickly one or multiple scenarios simultaneously without needing to invest in expensive hardware. In addition to these performance benefits, moving your models to the cloud allows them to be shared between multiple users without needing to make copies of the models and their data. Models in the cloud are accessed through a secure, customizable web interface, making it possible to work from anywhere at any time. This course teaches you to get started using Cube Cloud Services and get the most out of this innovative technology from Citilabs.

Topics will include:

  • Guidelines for preparing models to be uploaded to the Cloud
  • Exporting and uploading your model to the Cloud using Cube
  • Performing model runs using the Cube Cloud Services website
  • Sharing your model using web-based administration functions

Date: November 3 (1 day)

Cost: $250 per student

HIGHWAY TRAFFIC ASSIGNMENT AND NETWORK ANALYSIS

New Course! One of the most common applications of Cube software is the analysis of highway networks, which carry a majority of passenger travel in many parts of the world. This one-day course focuses on this aspect of Cube Voyager, with special emphasis on using the scripting language to automate common operations and implement advanced analyses. Tips and tricks are shown for extracting enhanced information from assignment models and optimizing their performance.

Topics to be covered will include:

  • Maintaining and coding highway network data
  • Path-building analysis and skimming procedures
  • Types of traffic assignment problems and solutions in Cube
  • Reducing run-times and optimizing performance
  • Sub-area extraction, calibration, and extensions to simulation

Date: November 4 (1 day)

Cost: $500 per student

USING CUBE FOR PUBLIC TRANSIT PLANNING

Back by popular demand! This course provides an overview of best practices and proven methods for analyzing public transit projects using Cube Voyager. All aspects of public transport modeling are discussed, from data development to skim analysis to ridership extraction and summary. The techniques covered can be used to demonstrate benefits that justify investment in new transit projects such as light rail, commuter rail, high speed rail, and bus rapid transit.

Topics will include:

  • Coding public transport network line data in the GIS Window
  • Generating access, transfer, and egress links
  • Extracting public transit path skim matrices for mode choice models
  • Tuning user class factors to represent traveler behavior
  • Transit network assignment and stop-to-stop analysis

Date: November 4 (1 day)

Cost: $500 per student

FREIGHT FORECASTING WITH CUBE CARGO

A one-day course that provides an overview of the concepts, features, and capabilities of Cube Cargo, a multi-modal multi-commodity freight demand forecasting model that you can easily integrate with existing transportation planning models. Cube Cargo goes beyond “quick-response” truck models to provide a specialized demand model for freight analysis.

Attendees will learn:

  • How to set up and run freight forecasting scenarios
  • Basic concepts and theoretical background of Cube Cargo
  • Input data structures, variables, and formatting guidelines

Date: October 29 (1 day)

Cost: $500 per student
